Pilots are sharing their data, also. A fundamental component to the Lightspeed Delta Zulu is the Lightspeed App, where pilots can monitor their aircraft’s CO levels in real time. Through an optional feature in the Lightspeed app called the Personal Safety Data Partnership Program (PSDPP), pilots can allow Lightspeed access to their CO data which we are sharing with the general aviation industry to provide with never-before-available carbon monoxide data in the GA fleet.
Agreeing to providing their data in anonymized form, pilots join the cause of researching and reducing aviation accidents. Our bigger goal is to help aeromedical experts, scientists, and the general aviation community to better understand the effects of carbon monoxide in the cockpit, and to give pilots time react to it. With over 50,000 flights of recorded data in the first year, Lightspeed Delta Zulu CO data has uncovered the fact that just under 1% of all flights produce extremely hazardous and life-threatening CO levels for at least some portion of those flights.
