Webinar: “A New Wearable for Increased Safety”

    By Lightspeed Aviation | Blog Posts, News | 0 comment | 13 June, 2023 | 1

LAKE OSWEGO, OREGON, JUNE 12, 2023

Hearing acuity diminishes over time, and it diminishes with prolonged exposure to noise. Hearing loss can lead to fatigue as well which frustrates all of us. For pilots, this can potentially lead to unsafe flying conditions. Having clear communications is essential to safe piloting. And have you ever experienced an emergency where Carbon Monoxide was present in your cockpit? This is a major safety concern for pilots of piston aircraft and can result in deadly consequences.

These topics and more were covered by industry experts in the webinar A New Wearable for Increased Safety presented by the Wings Industry Network’s WIN Insights LIVE and was presented by Gregory Ricca, MD, CFI, and Ron Timmermans, CFI.

This program presented important topics of hearing loss as we age and the use of carbon monoxide detection in aircraft. Learn about tools pilots can use to improve their hearing, lengthen their career in the cockpit and gain confidence in hearing critical communications as well as protection from carbon monoxide. The experts also demonstrated the new Lightspeed Delta Zulu headset which addresses both of these pilot concerns.

You can watch the recording here: WINGS Industry Network LIVE. Viewers will also be eligible to earn WINGS Credit by applying via the simple 2-Step process of accessing or registering for a FAASafety WINGS account and taking a quiz.

    About the Presenters

    GREGORY RICCA, MD

Dr. Ricca is an avid pilot, CFII, MEI, with over 24 years of instructing and greater than 5,000 hours flight time. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon, Fellow of the American Association of Neurologic Surgeons, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His focus outside of his day job is aviation physiology, normal and abnormal aging, and human factors, including how and why we make mistakes and how to avoid them.

“For me, Lightspeed Delta Zulu’s HearingEQity® is absolutely revolutionary.  I am now able to correct my normal age-related hearing deficits and greatly improve my ability to understand communications. This was not previously available in aviation.” – Dr. Ricca

    RON TIMMERMANS

Ron earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1972 and went on to add Commercial, Instrument, CFI/MEI, ATP, and Remote Pilot. Shortly after earning a CFIIA/MEI-IA, Ron became a Beechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program Ground and Flight Instructor. Ron is a FAASTeam Lead Representative giving monthly presentations on GA safety topics. He has given many Young Eagle rides, authored training curriculum, and developed flight instructor standardization guides, published articles, and served in leadership positions on the American Bonanza Society Board of Directors.

“Having recently experienced a Carbon Monoxide event in the cockpit, I now have an entirely new respect for its deadly consequences and appreciate more than ever, my Lightspeed Delta Zulu Safety Wearable with an “always on” CO detector.” – Ron Timmermans

About the WINGS Industry Network (WIN)

The WINGS Industry Network (WIN) is an alliance of many dedicated aviation organizations and individuals whose passion for general aviation safety shows through the many investments they make to help reduce the accident rate.

WIN works to combine industry members’ resources to build awareness of the many options available to promote GA safety practices and proficiency more effectively. To accomplish this effort, WIN works closely with the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) leadership to assist efforts to improve usability and participation of the content of the FAASTeam WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program (WINGS).

Adding to this effort, WIN produces WIN Insights, live-streaming WINGS-approved broadcasts; created the ground-breaking E-Z WINGS web-based tool to substantially improve access to completed WINGS phases; distributes a newsletter to industry members filled with FAASTeam news, tips, safety successes, and the path that’s taken to promote GA safety; and research and development of new tools to make access to proficiency training easier and more appealing to the broader community.
