The Lightspeed Delta Zulu ANR Headset Revolutionizes Pilot Safety and launches new category of Safety Wearables

LAKE OSWEGO, OREGON, SEPTEMBER 7, 2022

Lightspeed Aviation® today introduced the Lightspeed Delta Zulu – the first in the next generation of ANR headsets. This revolutionary ANR aviation headset introduces a suite of new features and heralds a new category of aviation product dubbed “Safety Wearables”. Building on the company’s reputation for excellent audio products, the Lightspeed Delta Zulu is built on a clean sheet platform that features groundbreaking new technologies that could save the lives of pilots and their passengers.

“Several years ago, we began to imagine how we could incorporate emerging technologies into a premium headset that would elevate the category beyond current day headsets,” said Allan Schrader, Lightspeed’s Founder and President. “The result is the Lightspeed Delta Zulu, a new platform that provides functions never before available around safety, personalization, and environmental data availability and analysis. This new family of devices will enhance flying enjoyment but, most importantly, will help save pilots lives!”
Built-in CO Sensors for Safer Flying

Built-in CO Sensors for Safer Flying
A Carbon Monoxide sensor built right into the Lightspeed Delta Zulu headset provides protection by measuring cockpit carbon monoxide levels, helping to keep pilots and passengers alert and safe. As pilots know, CO is an odorless gas that can easily accumulate in the cockpit leading to a deterioration in pilot capability, and in the worst case, an accident. The CO sensor in the Lightspeed Delta Zulu is always on and always monitoring CO levels, but the key advantage is that at preset levels, the headset will produce audible alerts. This smart alerting system is a technology called Kanari™ and is active anytime the headset is turned on.
Heightened awareness of CO is an important aspect of improved pilot safety. Levels can get reported audibly at the push of a button. The companion Lightspeed App allows pilots to personalize their own alert thresholds based on their tolerance and within limitations. With it, they can check CO sensor data visually during flight and review the full sensor history later. Pilots can also opt into the Personal Safety Data Program by contributing their accumulated CO flight data into an anonymized pool of ALL GA flyers. The goal is to help pilots, and the general aviation community, better understand the pervasiveness of the CO dangers we face.

    Built-in Audio Equalization with HearingEQity™
The Lightspeed Delta Zulu also introduces HearingEQity™, a built-in audio equalization system that adjusts the headset’s audio output to compensate for any individual hearing loss. Through an automated 12-frequency hearing test that can be taken through the Lightspeed App, HearingEQity sets the hearing level in each ear of the Lightspeed Delta Zulu headset to create an individual hearing profile that helps compensate for any hearing variations between ears.

    Other key features
Cockpit voice recorder – The Lightspeed App also allows pilots to record radio conversations, playback transmissions, draw diagrams, and archive flight recordings for post-flight briefing and training.

Changeable battery packs – Easy-to-replace battery pack gives customers the option of using rechargeable lithium-ion batteries or AA batteries.

UAC plug – The Lightspeed Delta Zulu is the first headset to adopt the UAC plug, allowing people to connect to other devices directly from the headset for charging, audio, and data transmissions. It can also be charged while flying via USB. The Lightspeed Delta Zulu has options for 4 cable configurations, from UAC to USB-A (included), USB-C, 3.5 mm and Lightning plugs (optional)

Personal Safety Data Partnership Program – An invitation to join the cause of reducing aviation accidents. By opting into the ANONYMOUS collection of sensor data from their headset, customers are providing data that will be used by General Aviation experts and scientists to improve the community’s understanding of safe piloting practices.

“As an aviation focused company, we involve pilots in every step of the process,” said Teresa De Mers, Executive Vice President, Lightspeed Aviation. “With the Lightspeed Delta Zulu we involved pilots early in the concepting stage, were honored to have a group of prominent aviation safety experts join our advisory council, and most recently, had over (50) pilots in the field conducting flight testing and validation. We are immensely grateful for the participation of so many like-minded safety advocates.”
Preorders for the Lightspeed Delta Zulu can now be placed for shipments in the second half of September. The product will retail for $1099 and is backed by a 60-day money back guarantee and a seven-year warranty.
